Each year, tens of thousands of trees are removed from the greater Seattle area. A USDA Forest Service study estimates that nationwide, nearly four billion usable board feet of timber are removed from urban areas each year. The vast majority of these trees are currently turned into chips, firewood, and landfill. There are many benefits to making better use of urban trees in the Northwest: it saves landfill space by removing useful wood from the waste stream, saves fuel and pollution that would otherwise be needed to transport the trees or lumber from around the globe, and potentially keeps more trees in the forests. It also saves disposal costs for municipalities and property owners. For all these reasons, we take it as our mission to partner with the community to make better use of urban trees. If you or your community is considering removing an urban tree and would like to see it go to better use than firewood, give us a call. |
